Case study, Black Wolf K-9

SEO case study: from no Google presence to position 1–2 in twelve months

An SEO case study measured in enquiries, not impressions: 8 to 12 qualified purchase requests a month from 16 countries, with zero ad spend. See Black Wolf K-9.

Let’s talk

This SEO case study covers twelve months at Black Wolf K-9, a specialist kennel that had no Google presence for a single purchase or service keyword and now holds position 1 or 2 on the terms its market actually types.

The result is not traffic, it is demand: purchase and training requests arriving in the client’s inbox every week, from four continents, without a single paid click.

16

Known in the industry, invisible on Google

The product was already respected inside its specialist world. Outside it, the business did not exist.

The documented before-state:

  • No presence on Google for any purchase or service keyword
  • No visual identity that backed the price the product actually commanded
  • No website that turned interest into a conversation
  • Buyers going to lower-quality competitors who were simply easier to find
  • International demand that existed and was never captured

Acquisition was word of mouth and social media, which works until the week it does not.

One caveat, stated because it matters: the zero starting point is confirmed by the project author. No Search Console screenshot of the initial state exists.

Four disciplines, one head, twelve months

The search architecture was decided before the design started. That single ordering decision is what the result rests on.

Four disciplines were delivered by one person over twelve months, with nothing subcontracted: brand identity first, then a WordPress site whose content architecture was built for search from day one, then a full search programme, then every word of copy on the site and the blog.

Why the order matters. When search work arrives after the site is built, it inherits a structure nobody planned for it, URLs named for internal reasons, pages competing with each other, copy written to please the owner rather than answer a query. The work becomes correction instead of construction, which is slower and costs more for a worse result.

Here the content architecture came first: two pillars, decided against keyword research, with the copy written to the keyword before the page existed. This is the growth engine service line as an entire programme rather than a monthly report.

The site it ran on came off the digital infrastructure engineering line.

The numbers that matter: the enquiries

Twelve months of work, and the result arrives in the client’s inbox:

  • 2 to 3 purchase or service requests a week, roughly 8 to 12 qualified enquiries a month
  • They come from Colombia, Spain, Mexico and the United States, for a high-ticket product with a long sales cycle
  • Zero spent on Google Ads or Meta Ads. Every enquiry arrives through organic search

How that demand is produced

  • 15 commercial terms sitting at position 1 or 2, every one of them with clicks
  • More than 200 brand-new keywords appearing in the last month alone, terms that did not exist for this domain in the previous period
  • 16 countries producing traffic, Argentina, Colombia, Spain and Mexico at the top, plus the United States and most of Latin America
  • One page carries most of it: the main pillar sits at position 1.9 and accounts for 61% of the domain’s entire organic traffic

Positions and countries come from the client’s own Google Search Console, not from an agency report. Any client can audit them.

The site keeps producing enquiries more than a year after implementation, with no further spend.

One build reaches sixteen countries, without hreflang

Sixteen countries produce clicks from one set of pages, in one language, with no per-country content and no hreflang configuration. Argentina leads, ahead of the client’s own market.

SEO without hreflang works here because the demand is in one language across several countries, and the real work is vocabulary rather than infrastructure: the same product is searched for with different regional words, and a vendor who only knows their home market never sees the variants the other markets use. Research the variants, write for all of them, and the single site collects demand from every country at once.

It is not a universal answer. It is the correct answer when the language is shared and the content does not need to differ per market.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take to bring in enquiries for a specialist business?

In this project the first market-core terms reached position 1–2 inside a twelve-month programme, starting from no presence at all. Compounding continues after that: more than 200 new keywords appeared in the final month alone, with no additional spend.

Can a business get customers from Google without running ads?

Yes. This site produces 8 to 12 qualified enquiries a month from 16 countries with zero spend on Google Ads or Meta Ads, and it kept producing results more than a year after implementation without further investment.

Should SEO be done before or after the website is designed?

Before. When search work arrives after the build it inherits URLs, page structure and copy that were never planned for it, so the first year is spent correcting instead of building. Deciding the content architecture first is what made this result possible.

Is it a problem if several pages on my site target the same keyword?

Yes. On this site four URLs compete on the core term, which splits the domain authority and limits how high that term can rank. It is diagnosable in Search Console and it is fixed by consolidating intent, not by publishing more content.

Start with what you already rank for

Most sites are losing clicks in a place their owner has never looked: positions they already hold, with titles nobody wrote for a human.

Send your Search Console access and the first thing you get back is what your existing positions should be producing and are not.
